Why was saddam Hussein put in power in the first place?

im writting a paper for my world civilizations cl which is basically a bs cl but i was writing a paper over why people have put people like stalin and Hussein and Hitler in power it was obvious that crap was going to fly ne ways i cant find any doentation of hussein put in power? Help please
