What is the connection between the process of meiosis and the inheritance of genes?

It is through the process of meiosis, in which cells are produced, that traits located on the genes are ped down through generations. Meiotic cells contain one copy of the genetic code for the individual, and by combining with another meiotic cell from the mate, the traits contained on both gene copies in the newly formed, complete cell, are expressed.
