Are tv networks responsible for incorrect information stated by their reality show participants?

On a reality show I was watching recently, one of their participants stated a statistic that was COMPLETELY 100% untrue. I looked it up in several official (government, etc.) sources. Can the network that produces the show be held responsible for statements such as that?
